PEACE, ECOLOGY AND FASHION

The worry for the nature, the respectful practices with the environment make way for themselves every time with more force. The consumer proves to be more demanding and asks the companies for a few clean products and a few ethical criteria of big openwork. The sector of the fashion with his powerful industry is looked every time with more attention. Is it at a height of the circumstances before the dramatic situations that take place and before the impact that the clothes, the complements and the materials that it uses have on the environment?
The mass media have done to themselves wide echo of a recent and effective deepening in the respect to the environment. The celebration in Rome of the “World Day of the peace” on the first Sunday of January had for motto “If you want the peace it takes care of the creation”. The Pope Benedicto XVI invited the thousands of persons who were filling the Square of San Pedro and the thousands that were following his intervention for the radio and the television to be reflected on the preservation of the environment which safe-conduct qualified of “essential“ for the pacific coexistence of the peoples. “It is indispensable – said the Pope - that the humanity renews and there reinforces the alliance between the human being and the environment that must be a reflex of the creative love of God from which we come and towards which we are walking”

It paid later the attention on the problematic ones that derive from the phenomena like the climate change, the loss of productivity of vast agricultural areas, the contamination of the rivers, everything what reverberates in the access to the natural resources and to the deep impact that all these questions take in the exercise of the human rights as the right to life, to the feeding, to the health and to the development.

In the latter times we have seen like the "responsible" consumption, in particular in the sector of the fashion, it calibrates every time with major efficacy the topic of the social responsibility and every time they are more the persons who, on having bought his garments, look at the tag to make sure of the origin of the pledges and to verify that they have not been prepared by the effort of children or adults on whom there have been imposed a few schedules and a few wage conditions removed from any notion of justice. Nevertheless the consumer is still giving a few first shy steps in becoming aware of the impact that can have on the environment the clothes and the accessories that he buys with the local knowledge where it takes place.

In the program of United Nations for the Environment it was qualified “like one of the most frightful disasters of the XXth century” the happened in the Asian region of the sea of Aral where the cotton production dried two thirds of the one that was the fourth interior sea of the planet provoking an authentic ecological and sanitary catastrophe. Examples as this one begin weighing on the textile industry considered the second economic activity on a global scale.

The experts point out that the proliferation of the responsible practices with the environment they are largely in hands of the consumers. At present ecological, more and more requested tags exist already, that they certify that a pledge has taken place of respectful form with the environment and with the rights of the workpeople. In Spain we have the example of the tag “Made in Green” of international character, which it grants in our country Aitex, the Textile Technological institute. Also way is made between the textile industries the use of prime matters with minor environmental impact and highly innovative someone from carefully recycled objects

All these practical measurements are of enormous importance as it it is also to treat the topic of the nature conservation from deeper perspectives and humanizadoras. The message of Benedicto XVI, to which we were alluding at first, establishes a very interesting relation between the respect to the human being and the respect to the nature affirming that when the man degrades himself there degrades itself also the environment in which he lives. “When the human ecology is respected inside the society the Pope affirms - also the environmental ecology turns out to be benefited”
