The same Giorgio Armani has declared that his inspiration for the collection Spring - summer 2008 is the south, his memories of a long summer in Sicily. Memories that Armani has mixed with diverse calls of other more distant cultures …
For it it is not surprised that the pants of his collection are of knots on the knees, like forming an Indian jodhpur, not that the skirts look like Polynesian pareos or that the form of his suits, of light and superposed textiles, they remember the oriental ambience. Quite thanks to the soft lines that with a movement of creases, sketches and knots turn the figure in vaporous, and like blurry.
But little by little they emerge and impose the evocations of Sicily on him. In the colors, the gray for the day and darkened like the lava of the Etna for the night it is colored later with the most living printings, the navy blue one who remembers the sky of the South and the dark green one of the palm trees of the Sicilian gardens that stylized and extended they transform into abstract designs.
The sea of Sicily is the conductive thread of the collection and it is evident across many small marine details: the handkerchiefs of network, the interpreted networks of the Mediterranean fishermen of diverse ways to accompany the suits, the thorns of the fish braided on pockets and jackets, the corals of rock crystal and onyx that contain conches hidden between the tulle.
And also the shawl, typical hat of the Mediterranean women, which can turn into a black or light poncho like a network of silver or of spots, or black on the most luxurious night suits covered with embroideries, which show like that his perfect quality of making and of refinement.
The line of the suits is simple with textiles superposition. The jackets, the smallest, seem truant and take on light and wide, almost nonexistent blouses. The sides are underlined by means of belts or high waists of the one that divides the volume of the skirt. The accessories, for example the purses are small, the sometimes smallest, and the big necklaces to complete the suit.
A romantic woman, therefore, that of Armani, which extracts his delight of the distant memory of next but forgotten things: the shawl and the networks of the fishermen and in the present of the most immediate experiences for the contact with other cultures.
